Final Novels Predictions!! (Poll!:)

Hey everyone!

It's so exciting that the second to last novel came out this weekend -- I was just wondering what everyone's predictions for the end of FMP might be! So I guess this is mostly for people who are all caught up, but even if not, hey, throw in your two cents!

MY big question is: Will Gatoh press the reset button!? Will he just kick everyone out of this universe and start a new one?

Haha, so the other day I had a (horrible) dream about the end of FMP, and this is what happened!! I don't take these seriously, but I had to share them with someone who would appreciate it (i.e., not my husband, haha- he's too pissed at me for accidentally spoiling him on stuff).

Ok, so my dream was really spotty, but the two major points I remember are that

1) Mao had a kid (guess whoooose!), which was really nice, since that sort of softened the blow of that particular death. There couldn't be any reset because of it, though - since that would be tantamount to killing someone ... I suppose.

2) I have to warn you that the other point I remember is truly horrible and disturbing, and I'm sorry - but in the dream Sophie (in Kaname's body) tried to seduce Leonard (BARF). He turned her down since, you know, she wasn't really Kaname. I woke up thinking that if that happened, Sousuke would have been better off staying dead. *sob*

Anyway, those were my unfortunate unconscious thoughts on the story. What are yours (unfortunate or no)?

Yan Jan-kyu. TToTT This one makes me sad. ...That may be because my husband is Korean, so I've got a soft spot for the Korean character, but still...!!! It's sad for Tessa, too, 'cause he was the best candidate for her to get with. Unconfirmed.

Belfangan Clouseau. o.O I wonder if Mao will be in charge...? (and on THAT note, it looks like Sousuke goes Commissioned! I've seen pics of him on the bridge! And wearing the more formal uniform with the Mithril badge on the sleeves! O.O Clouseau is unconfirmed.

Richard Mardukas. Really? REALLY? I would have though the jerk would live. And honestly, he's actually managed to grow on me some how. o.O ...Unconfirmed, anyways.

Sir Edmond Mallory! He created both Mithril AND Amalgam!? GAAAAHHH *stabs* His son, Edmond Mallory Jr., finds him it seems. Don't know if he pulls the trigger on Daddy or not. But judging from his expression and the whole pointing a gun thing, I'd say he was left in the dark.

Grrrrr.....

Anyways, as to how I think it will end....

I think it'll be bittersweet. I think Sousuke and Kaname will get THEIR happy-ending, but among everything that's happened to get them so far, they won't be able to completely enjoy it. With what I've heard happens in this first half of the ending books, I don't think it'll be easy for them to put everything behind them. But, they could surprise me. They are both quite strong and stubborn.

I really don't think we'll get the reset ending. I think a lot of people would be very angry if we did. People need to live with consequences, and I'd rather see the characters move on than have everything conveniently retconned for them.

I just hope Leonard dies a very long, agonizing death. I want him MELTED. SLOWLY. ...Jerk.

I mean it. I am tearing up.

I had a slightly sympathetic view toward Leonard because I assumed he was going to lose. But now ... I don't think I can finish my fic.

On the other hand, maybe Gatoh is trying to have Kaname do something she'd feel as bad about as Sousuke does getting Nami killed? I mean ... it's a lot more personal, but argh. No. CAN'T HANDLE IT.

Originally when I heard people suggesting the reset button, I was really angry, because it would take away all the hard work that all the characters would have done to get where they are, but if Sousuke and Kaname had some sort of reconciliation before it all goes kaplooey and then eventually remember what happened and so appreciate a better world over all, then I'd be ok with it. I dunno.

Also, if he resets, there's the extremely unlikely possibility of more Fumoffu ... but it could exist, if only in my imagination.

Seriously, the reset button ending is the worst kind of solution to finish a story. Unless you're talking to someone who knows how to make stories, eg; a writer, most people will tell you that. There could still be elements in the story that could prevent it from happening that Gatoh haven't revealed to us yet.
I also heard rumors that Gatoh hates this kind of ending. I really hope it's true.

I have decided that even if in ZSBM1, it looks like Leonard and Sophia/Kaname do sleep together, that we'll find out in ZSBM2 that it never actually happened. I just feel like it CAN'T happen, not after everything, not after Kaname cried so hard about not even being able to give her first kiss to Sousuke. I just don't think it can be. I refuse to believe it until the very end.

Maybe I'm being entirely too optimistic, but I want to believe ToT

I really hope it doesn't get reset but I think there is a strong possibility of it, and if it does happen I bet there would be some final scene where Sousuke transfers to Jindai High as a normal, healthy teenage boy and he and Kaname are drawn together, or something, but it wouldn't be the same at all.

The idea of Kanama/ Sophia and Leonard having sex just makes me gag Maybe Leonard will just try and make Sousuke think that, but it can't be true- it just can't be

I just started reading MisterV's translation of "Always, Stand By Me" part-1 and I'm halfway through. After reading the Briefing Room scene, I think that a "reset scenario" is now very unlikely.

Also, someone told me that Gatoh once said in an interview that he hates the "reset scenario" because the writer is "just running away" and it's not a proper way to conclude a story. You should, however, take that with a grain of salt.

Yep I agree it seems more unlikely after reading it, especially as

They mention that Leonard wants to rewrite the world to his will- so it wouldn't be a simple case of there never having been black technology, Leonard could retain his knowledge (which presumably includes his knowledge about black technology?) and even put himself into a position of power so it could create a very unbalanced world. Since a big chunk of the book went into the global military power balance with the Mithril/ Amalgam background story I think at this stage a 'happy' ending would be for both Mithril and Amalgam to disband/ be destroyed. Although I think Kaname will perhaps still use the Omni-Sphere for something, but hopefully as herself and not Sophia (I'm kinda hoping when she hears Sousuke's voice over the radio as he comes to rescue her that she will become Kaname again... eh, I'm probably being too hopeful that it would be so easy...)

It's weird, but at the moment the character whose future I worry for the most is Al!

Leonard and Kaname didn't even kiss, let alone have sex, it seems like they were about to kiss and Kaname was able to stop it at the last moment. Phew! It makes me wonder how they will animate Kaname/ Sophia if they ever do. I'm also glad that the letter Sousuke got from Milla (? I'm still a bit confused about her name) was not a love letter, she just seemed to be thankful for him for rescuing her, and I'm looking forwards to finding out what is on the memory card- something to do with Jindai High I guess- maybe the class recorded a message for them and put it on the internet, or something.

Oh, and do any Japanese readers know what Gatoh wrote on his blog today? I guess it will have something to do with the last book release, but I'm wondering if there are any clues in there?

It seems that, even though the Laevatein became a mess after the fight against the Belial, AL did survive. He also saved Sosuke from a Nuke blast by activating the LDS, on his OWN. Now here's the killer; he said he wants to be mounted in a CAR! KITT, you better watch out

And yep, there's no mention of a "reset scenario". Thank god.
