Melissa Mao, cig ‘n’ beer. On her wedding day she fled the alter and joined the service at a recruiting office still in her white wedding dress, the only reason the personel let her join (other than her persistence) was her declaration that her father was Air Force! After her dishonorable discharge from the Marines, Navy in the Sigma novels, strong-spirited Melissa Mao joined Mithril to avoid her father’s anger. First she refused her arranged marriage to the suitor of her father’s choice, secondly joined a military branch of service directly rivaling the Air Force and then she ended her term of service on such disagreeable terms… a self-proclaimed mercenary of her own right.

She is extremely fit and mentally active, she expects no less from her subordinates. Her Urzu team consists of mainly Kurz Weber and Sagara Sousuke, both Sergeants below her command. She displays physical abuse qualities similar to one Miss Chidori, however, her physical attraction (albeit through violence) is directed toward her subordinate Kurz. *hint*hint*

Melissa Mao generally grew up with a disapproving father, looking down on her besmudged military record and telling her how she should conduct herself in a satisfactory way. Melissa’s ornery attitude is presumably from this upbringing. While we do not hear much about her mother, Melissa’s stature exudes masculine qualities of mental abrasion, peak physical performance and robust courage in life-threatening situations. She pilots the Advanced Command M9 with her AI named Friday.

Mao enters the world of Jindai High undercover as a Graduate Student adjunct. Her and Kurz are to take the student’s on a class trip as guardians for the incognito Captain. Melissa is also the wise elder guardian of the other students on the trip, discussing what men like and what the girls should do to prepare themselves for a relationship. Especially when they are at the hot-springs. Melissa rather enjoys her role as a maternal figure for Miss Testarossa.—MIZ
