Plan 1055 Belial
Amalgam has built and tested many different AS units. These units all incorporated the Lambda Driver and have tremendous firepower and abilities that surpass existing AS units in every aspect. The man responsible for creating and producing these units is Leonard Testarossa. However, this did not stop him from creating his own personal suit with the knowledge he has as a Whispered. This creation would be known as Belial.
Belial was the demon who is in charge of 80 demon legions in the Northern half of Hell. It is said the he also commands the demons of Earth, his element. Belial also represents lies and guilt in the human conscious and thus his name is translated as ‘worthless’. Whether this has any to do with Leonard’s own personality is unknown but the power that his suit holds could allow it to be easily considered a demon from Hell.
The suit makes its first appearance near the end of the novel Continuing On My Own. Leonard appears and establishes his suit’s own power by ripping off one of the Arbalest’s arms in the first few seconds of combat it appears. The suit executes surprising speed and agility far beyond anything the Arbalest could counter. Whether or not it is the natural abilities of the suit or help from the Lambda Driver is unknown. However, one thing is certain, the suit can fly without help from any kind of jetpack or other device. The theory is that the wings underneath the suit exert some kind of force to push the suit up with help from the Lambda Driver. The same can be applied to Sousuke using the Lambda Driver to destroy a Venom unit through another suit. Whether or not this is true is unclear at this point. The suit was built for Leonard only so everything about it was modified to fit his own battle style. The other advantage he had is a full understanding of how to use the Lambda Driver - better than Sousuke can. This makes it easier for him to manipulate and defend against Sousuke’s own attacks with the Lambda Driver. One such example is avoiding shots fired with aid from the Lambda Driver. Leonard was able to avoid these attacks with ease and continue his overwhelming assault on the Arbalest.
The suit is considered a fourth generation suit, making it more powerful that the Arbalest, even with its Lambda Driver installed. Despite all these advantages the suit has no visible weapons, leaving only its bare hands and the Lambda Driver to destroy its opponents. However, the use of the Lambda Driver is pivotally its greatest strength and its greatest weakness. The reliance that the suit has on the Lambda Driver, and not on normal weapons, is a dangerous flaw in its design. The suit needs the Lambda Driver if it is to fly like it does and if anything happens to the device or the wings then that ability is gone. The other weakness is Leonard’s own arrogant attitude towards Sousuke. Leonard never expected Sousuke to acquire a suit to match the strength of Belial until the ARX-8 makes its debut.
The suit keeps its dominance up until the appearance of the ARX-8 in Come Make My Day. Laevatein makes itself known by destroying a squad of AS units consisting of Codarls and Behemoths with its bare hands and various weapons. In the latest novel Sousuke is able to match blow-by-blow with the ARX-8 against Leonard. The ARX-8 exposes the weakness of Belial with a gift from Kaname called the Fairy’s Feather. The addition of the Fairy’s Feather in Nick of Time effectively negates the Belial’s original advantage. The Feather’s ability to cancel out the Lambda Driver causes Belial to stick to the ground, making it vulnerable to any AS suit armed with conventional weapons. This is shown to be true when Sousuke first uses the Feather against Leonard in the latest novel. Leonard’s exact skill level is unknown at this point but Sousuke renders both pilots unable to use the Lambda Driver. This supposed draw makes it clear that while Sousuke is limited in his ability to interact with the Lambda Driver, Leonard does not have the experience Sousuke has in battle. This cruel realization is accompanied by a rescue from reinforcements.
The suits are now equal in combat, making the determinant factor the skill of the pilot in the final battle.
Belial is a true demon in appearance and strength leaving certain destruction in its wake. Even though Leonard is not at the same skill as Sousuke he can utilize the Lambda Driver better and more precisely that Sousuke ever could.
