The mysterious class President of Jindai Municipal High School, Hayashimizu Atsunobu has cunning up his sleeve and is never questioned on how he came to possess such extraordinary aptitude! The glare of his glasses speaks of an agenda unseen. His wealth of knowledgeable tactics undoubtedly comes from his amazing ability to read through material at an alarming rate—he has demonstrated this skill by finishing four books in the course of an enjoyable afternoon at the beach. Full of astute ideas he quickly earns the respect, loyalty and designation of “His Excellency” from our main guy, Sousuke Sagara.
As the head of the Student Council, Atsunobu has an extreme amount of pull with the Principle and Vice Principle—which reveals itself to be pretty handy when Sousuke errs in his Student Council duties. Amazingly, Hayashimizu entrusts Sousuke with some very important jobs without blinking an eye and has never taken a side opposed to Sousuke when it comes to questioning the motives of his “antics.”
A product of the free and open-minded school spirit of Jindai High, the student council has asserted “self-government” at Jin High. The hidden seat of power lies in the student council room. Atsunobu has exercised considerable political power both publicly and behind the scenes at Jin High since he took office. He has striven to expand the students’ right to self-government. Known for speaking and behaving on a level that is beyond the comprehension of the common student, Hayashimizu always looks carefully at the big picture.
There seems to be a platonic attraction between Hayashimizu and Ren Mikihara. While he cares immensely for his Student Council board, he never sends Ren on the dangerous objectives nor claims ownership over her in such a way to get things accomplished. On the contrary, he puts aside his personal safety for Miss Mikihara.—Miz
