As a young girl without any family, Seina found sanctuary in the A21 juvenile assistance group. The leader was the only father she ever knew and her dedication to the group was unmatched by any other for this simple fact. When the A21 fell into the hands of the mass media, the outlook of this oufit was turned into one of public disapproval – affecting Seina greatly.
Once the great leader Takechi fell to suicide, Seina took it on her own shoulders to continue the name of the group. If they were going to get the rap for being bad, if the public was going to be allowed to do all these bad things to the group because of it and if they could drive the man she admired to take his life then they might as well commit the crime so that the public could hurt just as equally. Just as unjustly.
Using this reasoning, Seina obtains a colossal Armed Slave and uses the same connection to find a pilot for the deathly machine. Just as Takechi was the only father to her, she took Takuma to be her brother. Takuma, desperate for family adored his older sister as the only link he had to anyone and he obeys her every word – despite the lie of it all. In the footsteps of a true terrorist, Seina never waivers in commanding Takuma to pilot The Behemoth guaranteeing Takuma’s death. Seina used him to accomplish her ultimate revenge.
Seina expresses an interest in Kalinin, whom she obtains on her rescue mission for her brother (the true motivation is he only hope she has to awaken the Behemoth). She falters in her actions when she sees him, for she feels the eyes of Takechi are looking through at her with sorrow for what she is doing. Kalinin is the one who makes Seina second guess her actions. Is this really what Takechi would have wanted? More amazing, Kalinin does this without lecturing her or making her feel insignificant. She confesses at one point that Kalinin looks a little like Takechi.
An ending comes to Seina’s life as she watches through blurry vision the destruction of Tokyo under the size of the Behemoth. When the ship went down she was hit by a large metal support in the stomach and had lost too much blood to save her. She dies, almost ironically, in her father’s arm – the substitute father for Takechi. Kalinin holds her in his arms, he speaks to her as if he is Takechi and doesn’t reprimand her for her actions. She died believing in her cause. And everyone has to believe in something.—miz
