Gates

Gates is an Amalgam agent and the head of Amalgam’s Execution Squads. It could be assumed that he is a brilliant military mastermind or it is plausible he is merely insane. He is known to kill his subordinates whenever he happens to mess up an operation, hears that an Amalgam-sponsored mission is a failure, hears that the mission does not display any regard for life, or simply when he is in an angry mood. Gates’ methods of murder are rather spontaneous from pushing his assistant off an airborne chopper to simply dragging another down into a swimming pool. He even used Xia Yu Lan’s corpse as a marionette in attempt to infuriate her older twin, Xia Yu Fan.

Evidently, when it comes to Gates’ personality, actions speak louder than words…—or perhaps not. At one point, Gates “sang” Franz Schubert’s “Ave Maria” repulsively while the Xia sisters and a group of Amalgam commandos proceeded to slay every armed Balic soldier. Although, despite his violent behavior; Gates shows much concern for his balding head. When Gates is killed in his Chodarl Arm Slave by Sousuke using the Arbalest’s Lamba Driver, his final words comment on his “desperate” need for a haircut.

It can be assumed that Gates was known as “Mr. Kalium” throughout Amalgam. In the light novel, A Dancing Very Merry Christmas, it is said that Gauron (otherwise known as Mr. Iron) was responsible for the death of Mr. Kalium. (Gauron does put into motion a series of events that end with Gates’s death, though Gauron’s primary intention was to lure Sousuke to himself).
It is also revealed that Gates could be a pedophile. He states this by saying he did not “hold back” even though Xia Yu Lan and Xia Yu Fan were underage. He also calls them Lolita-kun (“Lolita” is an unofficial term for a child in pornography) when he taunts them during their escape.—wikipedia

Gates can speak some Mandarin aside from English.
